DesignPrimer
Design rules, written down so I stop breaking them.
A complete design reference I built for myself, covering what I kept having to relearn or look up across too many scattered sources. It starts with Figma workflow, components, auto-layout, constraints, naming and dev mode, and moves into the fundamentals of web design: typography, spacing systems, visual hierarchy and UX principles. It also covers designing for a real audience, age groups, colour psychology, research methods and personas, and accessibility.
Good design isn’t a talent, it’s a system. Grids, tokens and component libraries beat “it looks right to me” because they are consistent, and consistency is a choice. Accessibility belongs to the same system from the start: WCAG 2.1 AA contrast, colour blindness, and motor, visual, cognitive and auditory impairments.
Seven chapters, 60+ concrete tips and rules, and full WCAG AA coverage, made to be opened mid-project and used immediately.
- Figma workflow: components, auto-layout, constraints and naming
- Typography, spacing systems and visual hierarchy
